Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center (formerly Rescate Animal Zoo Ave)

Project purpose:

Rescate Animal Zooave is a wildlife rescue center, sanctuary and conservation breeding center in Alajuela, Costa Rica. In 2019 they rescued over 2,700 animals, many of whom were released back into the wild. They also maintain a Life-time Care Sanctuary that houses over 800 non-releasable native animals (sloths, monkeys, jaguar, tapir, mountain lions, coyotes, and many species of birds.

Facility for volunteer: accommodation included, food included, cooking facilities, electricity, local shops, nearby medical facilities, refillable drinking water, shower (hot), toilet (western), wifi

Facilities for animal husbandry:
wildlife rescue center, life-time care sanctuary, endangered species breeding center, two remote release sites with accommodation

How long can I stay?

one week minimum for volunteers, time commitment varies for internships

Great experience

Great experience. I have learned a lot about wild animals and the bush. The kids are super. Thanks to Michele and Ian but also I would like to thanks all the volunteers and local people.

Very Good Program

My week at Daktari was excellent and the program is very intense in the sense that we all get together with the kids and animals from 7am until 9 pm. It is an excellent choice for a first volunteering program abroad considering and I would definitely like to go back someday
