Take your first step into the world of professional diving by completing your PADI Divemaster in the heart of the Coral Triangle. You will get the opportunity to increase your knowledge of coral reef ecology and Indo-Pacific species identification and stand out from the crowd.

When does the project run?

February - May / August to December

Electricity is from a generator between 18:00 and 22:30 every day. All huts have electrical points for charging. The project has local cooks who prepare all meals, while water for bucket showers and flushing is brought from a well on the neighbouring island. Accommodation and lifestyle is basic but comfortable! No WiFi but 4G signal is generally good and data packages are reasonable on local sim cards.

How long can I stay?

minimum 4 weeks commitment, maximum 6 months (Discounts available for longer stays)


  • 18 years of age
  • PADI Rescue Diver with 40 logged dives (can be achieved on-site)
  • Medical clearance for diving prior to arrival
  • PADI Divemaster Crewpak
  • Own dive computer and wetsuit; full gear preferrable

Remote, idyllic setting - perfect for those looking to avoid the tourist crowds. Superb diving on incredibly diverse reefs, where you will learn the skills to be a Divemaster with a difference. Increasing your knowledge of reef ecology will allow you to impart this to guests in the future and provide a holistic and informative dive experience.

An amazing project with amazing staff

I work as a travel agent, bringing volunteers to DAKTARI and other projects around the world. After helping a lot of volunteers fulfill their dreams of coming to South Africa, I managed to arrange 2 weeks to spend at the project. What a wonderful time I had starting with the staff who are so friendly and polite, the animals being taken care of as if they were family and the amazing food that was prepared catering to each of the volunteers individual needs. I can only say that if you are looking for an unique and quality experience involving a well thought out educational program and the preservation of native animal species, this is the one for you.
