How long can I stay?

To begin the NHRCP courses you must be certified by PADI or SSI as an Advanced Level Diver. This means that non-divers coming to do the program must first complete the Open Water course (3 Days, 11 000 THB) and the Advanced Course (2-3 Days, 10 000 THB). Both of which can be done with the New Heaven Dive School.

Details of the day-to-day life on the project:

2 week course: $760 (Advanced Divers), $885 (with Advanced Course), $1075 (with Open Water and Advanced Courses)

3 week course: $1140 (ADV. Divers), $1300 (w/ADV course), $1455 (w/OW & ADV Courses)

4 week course: $1520 (ADV divers), $1660 (w/ADV course),  $1835 (w/OW & ADV Courses)

You will do the same program on each length of course but will get increasing levels of depth and time to work on the projects as you stay longer.

Join the marine conservation team on daily activities for 5 days (Monday -Friday, December 15th-October 15th). Each day begins with a talk and presentation on a different topic of coral reef research, protection, or restoration; and is followed by a dive to actually practice the learned methods and techniques on one of our on-going project sites. The daily schedule will change based on the projects and restoration being conducted at the time, but generally are as follows:

  • Introduction to Marine Ecosystems and Ecology (dive to identify Marine Invertebrates in accordance with the Ecological Monitoring Program)

  • Climate change impact on coral reefs and basics of Mineral Accretion Devices (dive to maintain and trassplant corals to a mineral accretion device)

  • Artificial Reef Basics (dive to transplant corals on to and maintain artificial reefs)

  • Coral Nursery Basics and maintenance (dive to transplant corals on and off the coral nursery)

  • Seahorse Population Monitoring (Muck dive to survey for seahorses)

  • Giant Clam and Sea Turtle Nurseries and head-starting program, seahorse surveys, and much more

An amazing project with amazing staff

average rating is 5 out of 5

I work as a travel agent, bringing volunteers to DAKTARI and other projects around the world. After helping a lot of volunteers fulfill their dreams of coming to South Africa, I managed to arrange 2 weeks to spend at the project. What a wonderful time I had starting with the staff who are so friendly and polite, the animals being taken care of as if they were family and the amazing food that was prepared catering to each of the volunteers individual needs. I can only say that if you are looking for an unique and quality experience involving a well thought out educational program and the preservation of native animal species, this is the one for you.
